Infonova is currently working with first generation HBB service providers to build flexible business platforms required to explore and exploit the huge business opportunity that comes with HBB.
Critical success factors for new operators:
The HBB service portfolio will quickly become a differentiator for HBB service providers. The IFA and IBC events have shown that the first generation HBB services are still tightly coupled to the broadcaster’s linear content channels: EPGs, COD (Content On Cemand), VOD (Video On Demand), enriched News portals and most importantly, access to the media archives. But the next wave of hybrid services, which are commercially more interesting, are already in preparation: enhanced HBB browsers and search engines, personalized adds, voting, real time sports betting, teleshopping just to mention few of them.
Broadcasters will have to quickly switch from linear broadcast mentality to customer centric service provider thinking. How to manage a highly dynamic service portfolio and a rapidly growing customer base expecting excellent customer service. Needless to say that HBB service providers need to be smart enough to avoid the known pitfalls that occurred in telco world during the internet and mobile revolution.
The variety of potential HBB business models and value chains is huge. Public and commercial broadcasters, CE vendors, telcos and other stakeholders have quite different views on HBB and how the business could take off. The HBB platform of choice will have to provide a significant level of agility to orchestrate and support the various business models.
