The European Commission has defined broadband as an important strategic factor to stimulate growth, innovation and promote social and regional cohesion. Essentially, high speed access to the internet is a critical and crucial factor for the future economic development of any region.
Within regional Austria it is anticipated that there will be significant demand for fiber connections to support new services for both residential and business such as, HD-IPTV, VoD, Cloud computing services, eHealth for home monitoring of the aged and even thin client solutions. For those reasons several regional counties of Austria have started high-speed broadband initiatives targeting 100 MBit+ per person as the broadband vision.
The key challenge is to define the business models and the appropriate products & services which will be consumed in the quantities necessary to simultaneously ensure network growth and create a sustainable and profitable business for operators. In order to achieve these goals a comprehensive and careful analysis of the technical, legal and business environment impacting the infrastructural development has to be performed and the conclusions and recommendations are then presented to the governmental authorities.
Infonova has been a leader in IP network design, optimization and monetisation since the early 1990’s. As a first step to deliver a high performance “Broadband 100 Mbit+ Masterplan” Infonova has analysed all existing and relevant fiber connections in order to include them into a Next Generation Access Network.
The program includes a pilot project, where a specific region will be provided with high-speed internet access for an international sports-event in 2013 which will assist in global awareness.
With the Broadband 100 MBit+ Masterplan, Infonova will enable local authorities to take the right actions and remain at the forefront of broadband infrastructure development worldwide.
